Speed Up Your Browsing
This short guide will show you some things you can do to speed up your browsing while in Firefox. To speed up the rest of your computer go to the Speed Up Windows article
REQUIRED SOFTWARE:
STEP 1: ADD-ONS
There's one big one here, and that is Ad-Block Plus. It will block the ads displayed on pages, and will considerably increase both your privacy and browsing speed. Mostly because it blocks those images used for ad banners, and if you see an image you don't want to load next time, you can choose to block it. An incredible freedom to have and something you will miss when you have to use the internet without it.
STEP 2: ABOUT:CONFIG
In the URL bar of your browser, enter ABOUT:CONFIG. You will come to a warning saying that you should be careful about making chages, and that is good piece of advice. For your own good, only make changes that I describe there.
You will see a search bar at the top of your screen, below the URL bar. This is the place you can enter each key to find it. Below will be a list of things to change. To change a value, simply double-click. If it is a boolean, it will toggle between "true" and "false". An integer and string will prompt you to insert a value.
- "network.http.pipelining" - "True"
- "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" - "30"
STEP 3: FINAL STEP
Right-click on any open space inside the "About:Config" window. Select New->"integer" and name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay". Set it's value to "0". This is the number of millisconds Firefox will wait from the time it receives data til the time it starts using it. Shortening this time to nothing will make Firefox act faster.
And now you're done! Feel the speed as you surf through the web. Good Luck
